Welcome to NSIJA
NSIJA – Handwoven Textiles from El Jem
NSIJA is a Tunisian textile atelier dedicated to handwoven creations shaped by time, precision, and human skill. Produced on traditional looms, each textile reflects a slow and deliberate approach to making—where durability, balance, and quality guide every gesture. Every thread is carefully considered, and the arrangement of patterns is thoughtfully composed to create textiles that are simultaneously functional and expressive.
The atelier values subtlety in design. Instead of following trends, each piece emerges from an understanding of texture, light, and proportion, allowing the textiles to complement their surroundings naturally.
A Living Textile Heritage
At NSIJA, weaving is understood as a living practice rather than a fixed tradition. Knowledge is transmitted through experience and refined through repetition. The alignment of threads, the control of tension, and the rhythm of the loom give structure, texture, and depth to every fabric.
The atelier emphasizes the connection between artisan and material, where each choice—be it the thickness of a thread or the spacing of a pattern—affects the final character of the textile. In this way, every creation is unique, carrying the subtle nuances of the craftsperson’s attention and expertise.
An Open Atelier
NSIJA is first and foremost an atelier—a place of production, experimentation, and focused work. Textiles are developed with attention to detail, consistency, and respect for the making process.
The atelier operates through dialogue: between fiber and loom, between traditional techniques and contemporary needs, and between precision and intuition. Each project begins with a vision and evolves through observation, testing, and refinement, allowing the process itself to inform the final product. This attentive approach ensures that every textile resonates with authenticity and craft.

Materials and Everyday Use
NSIJA works primarily with natural fibers selected for their strength, comfort, and ability to age gracefully. The textiles are conceived to integrate naturally into daily life, responding to real uses while maintaining a quiet sense of refinement.
The design process considers both aesthetic and practical aspects. Softness, weight, and flexibility are balanced to ensure comfort and durability. Home textiles provide warmth and texture without overwhelming a space, while fashion accessories move gracefully and retain their elegance through repeated use.
Each piece invites interaction, whether draped, folded, or worn, creating a relationship between the textile and the person experiencing it.
Rooted in El Jem
NSIJA is based in the region of El Jem, an area marked by history and sustained by living forms of craftsmanship. Beyond its landmarks, the region remains a place where making is part of everyday life.
The atelier draws inspiration from the subtle shifts of light across the landscape, the textures of local materials, and the rhythms of daily life. These environmental cues inform the pacing of work and the tactile qualities of each textile. By listening to the place, the atelier allows the region’s spirit to quietly guide the shaping of every creation.
